Why Do You Love Homeschooling?

by

Browsing around yesterday I came across 8 reasons to love homeschooling post at The Sweet Spot. It made me feel all warm and cozy, so I thought I would come up with my own little list. Feel free to share your own reasons. Post it in your own blog and see what reasons others have to love homeschooling.

  • Sleeping in every morning. We are certainly not an early morning family.
  • Getting to take our time. Waking up, getting dressed, eat breakfast. These are all thigsn we get to slowly move into at our own pace.
  • Choosing our own topics. No one likes being told what to think every day, so we get to choose what we’re going to explore on our own.
  • Making learning fun and finding the educational moments in the fun.
  • Getting to share all the important moments with my kids.
  • So what are your reasons?

Very similiar to yours, the morning thing (sleeping in and taking time to wake up etc) is VERY true in our family as well. When someone asks me “How do you homeschool, I could never do that?” I ask them “How do you get up so early and get your kids on the bus every morning, I could never do that?”, LOL!! Also the individualizing my child’s education to suit them really rings true for us. We don’t have to do a lot of busy work but they get to pursue their individual passions and learn along the way. Homeschooling is not an education choice for our family is a lifestyle choice. My husband works from home so we are together all the time, and we LIKE it that way!

Since my husband is working out of state, it is really nice to be able to just go out there to visit and not worry about school schedules.

They would be missing a lot of school right now, because I don’t think I would let them go a month without seeing their father because school was in session.

The flexible schedule is a bit of a necessity for us right now, not just a perk.

I totally agree with everything you listed. I fact, I started listing ideas on a later blogpost of yours (which I read first) then it disappeared (my mouse/laptop issues) and I ended up reading this post that says pretty much everything I was going to write! We are definitely night owls. Flexible scheduling is a HUGE factor. We tried kindergarten in the public school Didn’t work. She is INCREDIBLY happier being homeschooled. Being able to tailor her lessons to what SHE is interested in instead of what the teacher has pre-planned is another top three reason for homeschooling. I think my list would be pretty similar to yours!
