What Are Your Homeschool Must Haves?

by

to do listTammy of Just Enough shared her 5 Homeschool Must-haves for 2008. It is a great list to read over. Instead of filling up a page of resolutions, that we all know will broken anyway, she wrote 5 simple things that she needs. Knowing what you need and making an effort to go for them might be the better way to go about this. Instead of resolving to go to bed earlier maybe I should proclaim that I need more sleep. My list would probably be

  • I need more sleep
  • I need quiet and calm
  • I need healthy food
  • I need a live in maid
  • I need a nice bottle of wine

OK, so the last two aren’t likely to happen. And, well, with my two boys number 2 is out the window also. Sleep, there’s just too much that needs done to sleep. And if I ate healthier foods I wouldn’t have all that caffiene to keep me going. OK, so that list is already out the window.

Seriously, Tammy’s list makes some good points. And I can’t help but feel that having a list of what you need will help how your homeschooling goes. It can be something to look back on when making decisions (Do we need more quiet time as a family, or to join a group?). And it can a way to point things out to your children when they question why certain things are going a certain way (We need space here so I need you to put away your toys). It can also work as a way to reconnect yourself on the days it looks like things are falling apart (We need more time outside, let’s go get refreshed).

What would your list of homeschooling must haves be?

  1. Activities Coordinator Says:

While I agree with what’s on Tammy’s list, I like your list better!

  2. Sunniemom Says:

    My homeschool must haves
    1) answering machine
    2) a truckload of art supplies
    3) quiet time in the morning
    4) the internet
    5) coffee (no wine for me- alcohol interferes with my heart rhythms)
    6) Calvin & Hobbes- our favorite reading material!

  3. Crunchy Mama Says:

At the top of the list would be my library card. We always have a hundred or so items checked out as a family. The thing I would love to have but don’t see getting any time soon would be someone or something to safely and effectively entertain the twin toddlers while my eldest and I work together. The Internet and coffee would have to be on my list too!

  4. Tammy Takahashi Says:

    Awesome list!

But quiet and calm… not sure what that is… I’ll have to look it up in the dictionary :)

    Happy new year!

  5. Patti Says:

I like this way better than resolutions!

I have only 2 things on my list:
    1. Endless supply of Patience
    2. More coffee

  6. Kate Says:

What I need for homeschool this year:

    1. Less clutter.
    2. Time alone in the morning.
    3. My son to settle down for story time.
    4. Fewer people dropping in unannounced.
    5. More coffee. Much more coffee.

  7. Tea Party Girl Says:

    1. Confidence
    2. Keeping the vision, not changing it
    3. Affection for one another
    4. A daily walk
    5. Tea, lots of tea
