Watch Out Ebay Shoppers!
I know that many homeschooling families do so by getting used curiculum and learning tools. Often that menas shopping at the source of all things second hand, Ebay.com. That’s why I wanted to share this important warning I read about Ebay.com being hacked.
The hacker, posting as “Vlad” was brazen enough to reveal himself by posting the usernames, contact info, and credit card/banking info of over 1,000 users on one of Ebay’s Community message boards for several hours before it was shut down by Ebay.
If you or anyone you know has an ebay account with your credit card and bank acocunt info listed, and really that means virtually everyone, it would be a good idea to let your bank and creidt card companies know that your information might have been compromised in this.
Though we know that the information posted by “Vlad” was pulled, we don’t know if he/she has kept any of that info, or has posted it elsewhere. And “Vlad” may even have much more than the 1,000 users he shared info on. Better safe than sorry in this case, be sure to let your banks and crdit card companies know that your information could have been stolen in this hack.
This would probably be a good tie to mention some of the other great places you can go online to get cheap and/or used homeschooling tools and material. There are many sites set up just for homeschoolers to buy and sell their materials.
- Homeschoolbid.com
- Homeschool Talk and Swap
- Homeschool Traders Forum
- Educator’s Exchange
- Homeschool Classifieds
You can also check out some of your favorite homeschool chat rooms and message boards. Often there are special sections just for buying, selling, or swapping materials. If there is not one you can always ask is anyone has what you are looking for.
Just remember to always be careful with your financial information, you never know when it could b stolen.

I’d like to recommend Vegsource’s homeschool swap boards as a safe place for folks to buy and sell curriculum. I’m not affiliated with them, but I have bought a few things off of the Vegsource boards with great success.
