Unorganized Homeschool

by Summer Minor

Amy of In Pursuit of Proverbs 31 had her first week of homeschooling last week, and I am envious. She has some serious organization skills. We’re talking charts, colored folders, and neat piles of books in specific spots. I thought the first week was supposed to be insanity every year? Or is that just for me?

plannerMy problem is that I have no time management skills. I’ve been so used to being on someone else’s schedule my entire life (school, work, babies) that creating my own schedule is difficult. No, creating the schedule is fine. I actually have a great schedule that includes things like getting up early to get things ready and mopping every Wednesday. It turns out that sticking to it is the difficult part. Some call it lazy, I call it another part of my quirky personality.

I need to remember that for the next time our schedule gets off track. It only happens about fifty times per school year.

    Quirky. Yep, that’s me.

  2. Dawn Says:

This is our first year homeschooling and I have to say that we have had way more “unsucessful” days than days that we stay on scedule and accomplish all on our agenda. But it’s the days that we aren’t “on schedule” that we learn the most…and I’m okay with that!

  3. Irreverent, Barefoot Ragamuffins Says:

I can soooo relate. DH and I were just talking about this last night. I tend to rebel against any routine. Hopefully we’ll find a happy medium soon between scheduled and free form soon.

  4. Katie (kitten) Says:

I was just saying the other day that I need to read about organizing. I just don’t have time, but do need to be a little better organized. I’m glad I’m not a lone.
