The Lorax
How can any week of children’s books go by without the beloved Dr. Seuss being mentioned at least once? Evry story he wrote has become a classic that children learn by hearts. My favorite is, of course, The Lorax. Though The Sneetches comes in a close second place.
What is it about The Lorax that draws me in so much? It is written in that typical fast and colorful Seuss-ian style that makes you trip over your tongue to read it. Which of course makes it fun for both the reader and the listener. But more than just the wonderful silly way it is written it is the message that I love.
I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees
The message is loud and clear. When you take, take, take and use, use, use it leaves nothing left. And when that nothing is part of the world we all must live in, it becomes a pretty grim place indead. Once banned for being a story that “criminalizes the forestry industry” The Lorax has become on the most controversial Dr. Seuss tales. I know. Dr. Seuss? Controversial? But it’s true.
While I’m a huge Dr. Seuss fan, The Lorax still has my heart. Maybe it’s the hippie in me, maybe it is the reason for my wanna-be hippie mindset. Who knows?
What is your favorite Dr. Seuss story? Do you have one that sticks with you from your childhood? Or one that you’ve found a nw apprication for now as an adult? Remember that any comments you leave this week couldwin you a free book. Tell me what your favorite Dr. Seuss tale is!

My favorite book is Fox in Socks, mainly b/c I once found my Austrian mother trying to read this book to my then-3 year old daughter. The tongue-twister verses were HILARIOUS and I will always love this book for the laughs it brought us.

I love anything Dr Seuss, but My Many Colored Days is my personal favorite. Some days we pull it out just to see what color we want it make our day.

I also love Many Colored Days. It is my all time favorite. I also have a special place in my heart for One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, but that’s a long story. As a teenager my family was addicted to Oh Say Can You Say. And my girls’s love it when we read Dr. Seuss’ ABC’s.

I love the one with the pale green pants with nobody inside them. I can’t remember the exact title. I think it has a great lesson in it that people can look different but they feel the same things that you do.

I love The Lorax and several others, but my favorite is Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? I remember my Dad reading it to us when I was little.
My first date with my husband was at a huge bookstore, and when I told him it was one of my childhood favorites while we were browsing, he pulled me over to a nearby couch and read it to me! [Swoon.]

The Butter Battle Book has always spoken to the peacenik in me. Believe it or not, I was unfamiliar with The Lorax. After I read your post, I went to our local used book store and got it. I have to say that it speaks to me maybe even a little louder than Butter Battle.
For my kids, I think Green Eggs and Ham is the winner.
