Sites you should know
I thought I would take this morning to share a few websites that I love, and that you might love too.
This first one a site that my oldest son must get his inspiration from “Just one more book!” is echoed through my house every night at bedtime. Of course “one” more usually means three or four, each read at least twice. As agrivating as it may be some nights, I can always find comfort in the fact that at least he’s developing a love of reading.
Just One More Book is a thrice-weekly podcast in which we take a few minutes out of our morning coffee ritual to discuss one of our many favourite children’s books.
Through this podcast and its website, we are building a lively, interactive community linking children’s book authors, illustrators, readers (parents and children) and publishers.
Episodes range in length from 5 to 12 minutes and can be played directly from our web page or downloaded to an ipod for listening on the go. Each episode is an informal discussion of one of our family’s favourite children’s books. We also feature interviews with authors, literacy related discussions or audio reviews submitted by our listeners.
This podcast is powered by passion. We have no advertisers or sponsors and there is no financial gain to be had. Our goal is to link children with great books and help create happy memories for children and the adults that read to them…and to have fun!
If you would like to share these conversations with others who are interested in connecting families and children with great children’s books, please feel free to link to this site and to pass it along to parents and teachers.
This next one I found from a comment left here. I checked it out and found it was a pretty cool site for finding fun activities to do with your kids. You can submit your favorite activities, rate the activities already submitted, and sign up for the newsletter to have fun ideas sent directly to your email.
http://www.play-activities.com
Play-activities is a free and fun educational e-mail for parents of children under 5. Join us and gain access to a wide range of activities to help your child develop a balanced play life, have fun, and enjoy a good mix of the early childhood skills identified by child health professionals.
The next two sites are something that every homeschooling parent can appriciate. Homeschool Hacks and Parent Hacks. Both are great sites that provide information, tips, and ideas to help you get through the day.
According to Wikipedia, “the term lifehack refers to productivity tricks that programmers and other geeks devise and employ to cut through information overload and organize their data.” When it comes to educating our children, we could all use some lifehacks. And so, Homeschool Hacks was born.
At Homeschool Hacks, you’ll find news about homeschooling and education, as well as inspiration, support and wisdom from parents who are in the trenches, parents who are dedicated to their children’s education.
Our mission is to provide you with tools and information to educate, engage and excite your children. While our focus is on homeschooling, parents of toddlers, preschoolers, and public or private schooled children will also find our hacks useful for staying involved in their child’s education.
We parents rely on each other for quick, practical advice. Books and magazines are fine, but the real-world perspective of one’s friend, sister, neighbor, or the friend of one’s sister’s neighbor, is often the most helpful.
Parent Hacks is a collaborative weblog that collects parents’ tips, recommendations, workarounds, and bits of wisdom – their hacks – in a single pot so we can all partake. Here’s the stuff that would have been left out of the instruction manual…if there were one. We’re not experts in the pediatrician-, psychologist-, or teacher- sense. We’re just out there, raising our kids, finding the little tweaks that make this crazy adventure go a little more smoothly.

I’ll have to check these out, especially One More Book. I’m off to my other blog, A Readable Feast, to add it to the side bar. Thanks!
