Show Your Shiny Side!

I found this great contest going on and had to share it. It’s the Show Your Shiny Side contest for this year’s TV turn off week.

“What if there were no TVs, computers or video games in your life? That’s exactly what national TV-Turnoff Week is all about – and the “Show Your Shiny Side!” contest is asking elementary-aged kids to come up with imaginative ways to spend their time during those days.” -Bubblegum Books, TV-Turnoff Contest

I emailed Sarah of Unplug Your Kids to find out if homeschoolers were eligible and found out that they are. The contest is open for all elementary aged children, even preschoolers. The prizes are awarded by grade level so you will need to know what grade your child would be in. The forms are written for schools, but you can just fill in your home information in those spaces and it will be accepted. The deadline to enter is March 14, so if you are interested you should join in now. And those who have children in schools find out of your schools are a part of this great contest and let them know that they can join in the fun too.

You can read the press release here then print out a contest form and let your children get creative. Who knows, you might have more fun implementing the ideas your kids come up with than watching TV ever was.

And don’t forget to check out this week’s Works For Me Wednesday post to read lots of great tips and suggestions.

Great idea. We all need to get a bit shinier over here. Getting dull and glassy-eyed lately.
