School…

by

And, so goes the ol’ saying, "time to send them youngin’s back to school".  I’m going to assume that the homeschoolers have taken a break as well and I’d be interested to know when you will get cranking again or if you take a bigger break in the winter than just the obligatory 2 weeks that the public schools kick out.

Actually, Walker doesn’t go back to school until Tuesday, tomorrow is a school work day.  But, someone forgot to tell my husband’s boss because he has to go to work tomorrow.  That means, I will be left to my own devices with both boys.  And, yea, I am a little scared.

I know it sounds silly and really it is.  I’m not quite serious when I say I dread it but I’m not quite kidding either.  My husband has been home the two weeks that Walker has been out of school and because of that doggone virus, he was basically home the week before that.  My mom left on the 14th going to Florida and I was fully prepared for my week alone with the 4.1 year old who is not potty trained.

My plan was to potty train him.  But since everyone was sick as dogs, that just didn’t happen.  Instead, we all were vomiting and had diarrhea and hello, that’s simply not the time I want to choose to potty train.

But, tomorrow, I promise you by George, tomorrow that kid is going to start learning to potty in the toilet and not in pull-ups or even underwear.  My mom is still in Florida and my husband goes back to work, no time like the one on one time we will have starting Tuesday to get this job done.

And, for all of you out there rolling your eyes in disgust because "hey, that woman has a 4.1 year old who is not potty trained", or "that woman is afraid to spend the day alone with her two kids" or anything of the similar, it isn’t that I’m afraid to spend the day alone with them…well, yea, maybe a little bit, it’s just….well, they are busy fella’s and require a lot of upkeep.  I never was afraid when they were little, that was easy.  But this constant entertaining and feeding thing…geez it’s hard.

Today alone these children have consumed 6 medium size pancakes (about the size of the ones in that photo) each.  Yes, you read that right EACH.  I only had 3 and my husband 4, they had 6 EACH.  Then, we went out about 3 to catch a late lunch, early dinner, since they didn’t eat breakfast til near 10 anyway and they each had 1/2 of a sub 12 inch sub sandwich.  Normally I order a 6inch and half it between them.  Tonight, they both ate a 6 inch.  No kidding.  So, for all those who think that I should homeschool (and I may eventually) think really hard about it…I can’t even "teach" my 4.1 year old to use the darn toilet, how would I ever teach him to read?  When we arrived home, they both started to bark about being thirsty and the next thing I know, Jace has a huge bag of marshmallows and squawking about being hungry.

So, just keeping them fed is not easy.  Throw in the fact that we really need to go into town and I just don’t know how some folks do it.  And, I certainly don’t know how folks with more than 2 or 3 kids do it.  I’m terrified of single parenting.

But, either way, I’m on my own starting tomorrow…someone pray for me.
