Do you have a purpose?

I read an interesting post this weekend at Home School Central called What is your purpose? She shared her top five goals for homeschooling and talks about not putting so much pressure on the acedemics.
I have to say how much I agree. If your days feel overwhelmed and you are getting burnt out then maybe it is time to review what your goals are. Not just your goals for homeschooling, but your goals for parenting too. With homeschooling education is so inter-wrapped with life that you cannot always keep the two seperate. What you teach your child about life will blend with their formal educvation, and vice-versa. Now while it is summer and many families have slowed down or taken a break it might be a great time to review what your goals are. Make a short list of 5 or 6 things that you want of your children. You don’t have to think too hard or try to come up with inspired and insightful plans. Just the goals that you have for your children.
Here is my list:
- That they will become lifelong lovers of knowledge.
- That they will have minds of their own and question the woprld around them.
- That they will care about what is happening around them.
- That they won’t take everything so seriously.
- That they will be happy, no matter what they choose.

This is a good question, and one that I have been re-examining as we start with school after a nice break. My middle child is starting school with us now so things are changing and growing all of the time, I think it’s good for our goals to be constantly growing too.

I hope you’ll contribute to the “Vision Project”.
It dovetails with your entry here.
