Our Homeschool Family

by

Have you seen this video yet? Go now, watch, laugh, then come back here. It’s a great video satire of the homeschooling streotypes we commonly hear about. I giggled, a lot.

Though apparently not everyone is laughing about it. To some it is an offensive video about the stereotypes that most homeschoolers have to battle. Are they laughing with us, or at us? What is the intent of the video? And are they only feeding the flames of ignorance in what homeschooling familes are really like?

unsocialized homeschoolerPersonally I thought it was hilarious. I didn’t see it as offensive at all, but was poking fun at the stereotypes of homeschoolers. A little “Oh yeah, you got me” and an eye roll to those who assume if you home school you must be (fill in the blank). I would love to get to meet the family (or families) that created this video and get their thoughts on it. The whole thing seems rather tongue in cheek and I’m betting that the people who did put this together are a hoot.

I have not yet been able to find it on YouTube, so I can’t share the video here. Maybe someone will get it up soon. Until then you’ll just have to click that link and watch it on it’s page. Then don’t forget to come back here and tell me waht you thought. Offensive? Hilarious? Annoying? I want to know! To me stereotypes about everything already abound. If we can laugh at them, they begin to lose some of their power. Now pass me another ho-ho and turn on the soap operas.

I don’t know if this was there, when you first saw the video, but this is what’s on the video page now:

“Oh, the misconceptions and realities of homeschool life,” from comedian (and homeschool dad) Tim Hawkins. Tim plays the dad in the video and his wife, Heather, plays the mom. Half of the kids are theirs – the rest are friends. To see this and other comedy videos from Tim Hawkins, go to: http://www.timhawkins.net.”

    Personally, I *loved* it :-)
