It’s Snowing Inside Too!

When the weather is too cold for playing in the snow outside we like to make some snow fun inside. Cutting paper snowflakes was something I loved as a kid, and still do. So of course I pass that on to my sons.
I keep a big package of coffee filters in my craft box for just such an ocassion. They make great snowflakes. You simply fold in half then fold into thirds to get your 6 sided snowflake. We learned all about snowflakes reading the Snow Book.Once you have your coffee filter folded up the cutting can begin, and the mess. I think having a table covered in small pieces of paper is more fun than the actual snowflakes for them. Who am I to spoil their fun?
A great idea to do with your mountain of snowflakes, other than hang them all over the house like I do, is to turn them into tree ornaments. A little glitter and glue, maybe some rhinestones or stick on crystals, and laminate the entire thing. Don’t forget to add your child’s name and the date on the snowflake somewhere. It would be fun to make a bunch each year and give to relatives. They can see the progression from the early simple flakes to the more detailed ones as your children get older.

These are beautiful! And to think how many coffee filters I’ve wasted just making coffee… I might just try this with my kids–I don’t think they’re too old yet.

What a good idea to use coffee filters. Our son loves to make snowflakes and origami. We’ll have to try out the filters!

OK now THIS is a craft I can do! I have a ton of coffee filters too big for our filter too!
Thank you! I’m adding this to my children’s “to do” list this week!

How fun! I had forgotten about coffee filter snowflakes. Thanks for the reminder. We have an entire window full of the paper ones (a big window at that). LOL
I love the idea of laminating them and giving them as family gifts.

These will be good for those long days of school vacation–I could use plenty of ideas for that.
