Halloween Recipes To Make With Your Kids
I love that Scribbit is doing this Winter Bazaar! I can see it being a lot of fun to do each week. If you’re not sure what it is about you can check it out here. It’s a weekly themed round up of fun ideas, activities, recipes, and more. I hope everyone will join in the fun.
Errin at Parenting Our Children had a post recently on making caramel apples. Since cooking with kids can be both so fun and so educational I thought I would share a few favorite recipes that have a Halloween feel to them.
Goulish Popcorn
Pop the popcorn as normally. In a small dish melt butter and add red or black food coloring to the butter. Pour the butter over the popcorn just before serving. I find that we have to use a lot of dye to get the coloring the right shade. A better, but more costly, way is to use food coloring paste from a decorating supply store.
Slimy Bones
This one is my favorite, mostly because it involves white chocolate which happens to be my alltime favorite. You’ll need white chocolate baking squares, about 4-6 ounces all together. Half of the white chocolate is used to make the “bones”. Melt it down and dip pretzle sticks into it until completely covered. Set them on wax paper to dry. Now for the slime. Melt the white chocolate until it is smooth, then add 2-3 tablespoons of heavey whipping cream to reach the perfect slimy texture. Add in green food coloring and stir until it’s as gross and slimey as you want it. Keep the slime warm in a fondue pot until ready to serve it over your bones.
Zombie Juice
This drink is so gross and good at the same time. First you need the zombie parts. I use latex gloves, clean them inside and out, and fill with water and a little red or green food coloring. Tie off the end and hang them upside down in the freezer for at least 24 hours. Run them under warm water then slowly pull off the gloves and use the frozen hands to chill thepunch. It’s even creepier if the fingrs break off. I also toss in some peeled grapes for the perfect eyeball effect floating in the punch. The punch itself is a bottle of lemon-lime soda and a bottle of any green Gatorade. it tastes great, and it’s kind of feaky to look at. Perfect!

You know, one of my earliest Halloween memories is going through a “haunted house” where we were touching slimy noodles in the dark and grapes (eyeballs) in a bowl. This is a hoot, my kids would love this.
Also, I wanted to let you know I changed the mess about the leaving the links in the comments and installed a Mr. Linky instead. I went ahead and added your post’s permalink to the list. Just FYI.
