Book Swapping

by Summer Minor

wfmwsmall.jpg I like the new Works For Me Wednesday logo, how about you? Though I will miss the old one, so I may pull it back out from time to time. ;)

I mentioned PaperBackSwap a bit ago as a great place to get free books. You just sign up, then begin sharing old books you no longer want for othr people’s books that you do. It’s a great way to get free books. And you know we homeschoolers LOVE books. But they’re not the only game in town when it comes to free books. So I thought I would share some of the other sites out there where you can swap books.

Title Trader - Similar to PaperbackSwap, you can swap out almost any media with other members. Books, DVDs, CDs, and more. Title Trader is free to use, though there is a Premium service for $19.95 per year if you want to upgrade. (If you join, tell ‘em lillake sent you!)

Bookins - Another free book trading site. One downside is it is a bit more expensive on shipping then PaperBackSwap, $4.95 compared to the media mail rate of $1.65. However, you start off here with 15 points to use on books, whereas with PBS you have to list 10 books to give before being credited with 3 points. Also bookins requires a credit card, while PBS you can use paypal.

BookMooch - What I like about Book Mooch is that they worth with certain charities. You can give away your book points to these charities so that they can recive books. It’s completely optional, but a grat way to get warm fuzzies. They also have some great tools to use, such as a blog widget to share what books you’re mooching and a bar to help you search for books on Amazon.com first.

If you want free books you have to join at least one of these. Or, like me, join them all! It’s a great way to build up your book collection and get rid of any old books you might not want anymore.

I also love bookswaps. In addition to the ones you listed above, I also use swaptree.com. It doesn’t use a point system just creates matches based upon what you have and what you want.
