Book It

by

book itI remember clearly in grade school getting my free pizza vouchers every month for small Pizza hut pizzas thanks to the Book It Program. I was already a reader, but getting those greasy, messy, so bad for me pizzas gave me an extra motivation to read as much as I could.

The Book It program is still going strong today. Though I’m not a fan of fast food for grades, I know that some parents love that their kids are motivated to read more thanks to this program. Most schools are already a part of this reading for pizzas campaign, and if your’s isn’t you should let them know how simple it is to sign up. This year Book It is starting a new program for preschoolers. The Book It Beginners program is for children ages 3-5 that are not yet in school. There are teaching packages ready for preschools and daycare centers to use to help young children with their reading skills. The deadline to enroll is Feb. 28, so you should get in contact with you child’s caregivers now and let them know about this new program.

For older children the original Book It is still going on. This program is for children from Kindergarten through 6th grade, and is available to homeschoolers as well as those in schools. The site offer reading tips for parents who might not be comfortable with reading outloud to their children. There is also a store where you can buy extra goods for your child from Book It.

If you are looking for something to help motivate your child to read more the Book It program might be for you. That’s my tip for this week’s Works For Me Wednesday. Go over and check out the other great tips people are sharing.

Hmmmm. I love books and pizza. Sounds like a great combo!

Thanks for the tip. Our library participates every summer and our son who is an avid reader looks forward to receiving his pizza at the end of each summer. I didn’t realize that this was a year round program too and that even homeschoolers could join in.

This made me feel nostalgic! I used to participate in this as well. Like you, I also already LOVED to read, so it was great to get free pizza every now and then for doing something I was going to do anyways.

  4. Hadias Says:

I enjoy participating in book and so do my children.

Now is the time to join for those interested.

THANK YOU for this. I was just wondering today if they do Book It for homeschoolers. My daughter currently attends PS, but I will be hsing two of her sibs next year (and maybe her). I knew that the youngers would be disappointed to not do Book It. And I am sure I wouldn’t have looked so soon - so thank you!
