Blueberry homeschooling

by

I thought I would share a glimpse into our week and share a recipe that we enjoyed. My oldest has been really into animals lately, so we have been enjoying Animal planet in the evenings. On Monday we watched a show about bears living in Canada. At one point the bears were grazing through a field of blueberry bushes. So on Tuesday when we went to the library I made sure to grab Blueberries for Sal. We also picked up some books on hiking and camping and all the animals you can see.

Then on Wednesday we packed up and went to a local park that we love. There are lots of trees, flowers, a creek, and a small hill covered in brush and plants. Its a pretty small area, but to little kids it is huge. That evening We went to the store and bought some blueberries and a small thing of plain yogurt. Thursday we used the plain yogurt to make our own yogurt that we could eat with the blueberries. It cultured all day Thursday and was ready to eat Friday morning for breakfast.

Yogurt recipe

a cake pan
a deep mixing bowl
a wire wisk
1/4 cup plain yogurt
1 quart skim milk
4 small jars with lids

Combine the yogurt and the skim milk in the bowl. Stir it well with the wire wisk. Pour the mixture into the jars and put on the lids. Set the jars in a pan and put enough warm water in the pan to come almost to the top of the jars. Find a warm place to put the pan where it will not be disturbed for 8 hours. You will find when you open the jars that the milk has thickened. It is now yogurt. You can sweeten your yogurt with fruit or jam.
