A Glimpse Into Our House

by

This is a late post, but it’s been a rough day. So I hope you’ll forgive my tardiness.

If you haven’t already go visit The Heart of the Matter. It is a new site/online magazine for homeschoolers. While is is a Christian based site they say that all homeschoolers are welcome. Today they hosted their very first meme to the theme of a day in the life. Everyone is encouraged to join in and share a day in your homeschooling household. There is a Mr. Linky set up so that you can share your link once you have it posted. You can also see the list of future memes they have planned so you can get in on the next one sooner.

I thought I would take up the offer and share what a typical day here looks like. Not today, that might scare you. But a typical good day. Since we’re not really a “live by the clock” kind of family there aren’t any real times to give. It starts when we get up and ends when we go to bed, very fluid and loose.

  • Get up, eat breakfast, get dressed. There’s usually a little PBS watching thrown in there too. We’re not morning people, so it helps distract my boys from killing each other and driving me insane.
  • If the weather’s nice we take a morning walk then play in the yard for a bit. If it’s not nice we do yoga in the living room and lot of running around.
  • Puzzles and sticker books were given in abundance for Christmas, so there have been lots of playing with them. It gives me time to pop online or do some cleaning.
  • Play, play, play. We do our best learning when playing. Right now we’ve got high adventures on the brain, so lots of pirates and bandits and jungle explorers.
  • Lunch!
  • Little man goes down for a nap after lunch time. That means arts and crafts, a private story time, and a little mommy break snuck in.
  • After nap we head outside to burn some steam. If the weather is cruddy we usually just run around the house.
  • When it starts getting dark, which it does far too early right now, it means clean up the house time. The boys are takig to it well. Folding laundry and putting away toys have become almost scond nature.
  • A quick dinner.
  • Finally we bring it down for the day. Lots of cuddling and reading and talking. And a great excuse for me to sit down!

So there you see it, what our day has been like lately. Of course not every day is like this. Take today for example which was more “Stop hitting your brother!” “We don’t slam doors in the house!” “Ask me without whining!” and so on. You know, you have those days too. At least it’s not like A Day In The Life Of Britney Spears.
